Quality Management Systems (QMS) — Initial Course
This 5-day course provides instruction in the key concepts and practices required to implement and maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) within an aviation organisation, in accordance with regulatory requirements and international aviation standards. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of quality principles, document control, process management, and audit management as defined in Civil Aviation regulations and ISO 9001 requirements.
This course is a foundational programme and a prerequisite for the Audit Techniques and QMS Root Cause Analysis courses.
Course Objectives
- Explain the principles of quality management and their application within an aviation organisation.
- Identify applicable regulatory and international standards requirements, including KCARs and ISO 9001.
- Implement a document control system and apply document control practices to manage an organisation's documents and records.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage an audit programme for an aviation organisation.
- Implement and manage processes to support an effective QMS.

Target Group
- Personnel responsible for implementing the Quality Management System — Heads of Quality, Heads of Safety, Quality Officers, Safety Officers.
- Quality Auditors, Safety Auditors.
- Nominated postholders and managers including Heads of Operations, Heads of Maintenance, Heads of Training.
- Other managers or personnel interested in understanding Quality Management Systems.
Prerequisites
- No formal prerequisites required. This course is designed as a foundational QMS programme.
- Basic computer skills are required — working knowledge of office productivity software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent).

Completion Standards
- 100% attendance required.
- Satisfactory completion of in-class and homework exercises.
- Mastery tests — must achieve a pass under mastery assessment standards.
- End of course exam — pass mark 70%.
- Course opinion questionnaire.
Required Materials
- A laptop with functional office productivity software (Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace equivalent) and internet connection.
- Participants are encouraged to bring their company QMS manuals (hard or soft copy) for use during exercises.
